ihave a samsung LNT-5265F my xbox360 connected to it via hdmi, my HTIB connected to tv via hdmi and from my tv a optical cable to htib. i get great sound but just curious to know if it is really surroundsound or just pro logic sound? if i connect the 360 to htib and the htib to tv i wont get 1080p only 1080i. so my question is, you think im already having 5.1 sound or not? what should i do to get the perfect setup? or should i get the microsoft HDMI that splits the picture to tv and the sound to HTIB with a optical adpter. i got the monster HDMI cable m1000hd serie. thanks

  1. One of the first things is, what type of HTIB do you have? On the answer side of that you should have 5.1 now but it is always a safe bet to go directly to the HTIB from the XBOX via fiber optic.

  2. I agree with the first person. You need an optical cable going from the 360 to your HTiB for your sound to get true 5.1. The way you have it now is technically stereo that the receiver has processed and sent out to all of the speakers. With this you are getting constant sound from each speaker instead of being seperated by where the sound is supposed to be coming from.

  3. Best way is to use the HDMI cable to your TV for picture and then use an optical cable from the xbox 360 to your receiver.

to get 5.1 ch true dolby digital or dts, based on the disc.
