  1. Yes, they can. But - only if they feel like wanting to. Sometimes you can put one in and they will - some rats choose not to.

    Buy a bag of litter that is made of wheat. It's called "swheat scoop". They are tiny flakes. But don't use a typical corner ferret litterbox, use a rectangular one. Even ferrets don't like the corner ones.

    Fill it with the swheat scoop. Yes, they WILL eat some of them, but after the initial "mmm this is yummy" they will go to the bathroom eventually. If it's not in the box, put some poo in the box and they will get the idea.

    Swheat Scoop is made for cats so you can find it at any pet shop like Petsmart. It's also small enough pieces that they can't steal them and take them into their nest!

  2. I've got males, and Ellie is a bit right about them! Although my boy Templeton is a sweetie and doesn't scent-mark and always goes in his litterbox! He's very tidy. My OTHER boy Reggie, though, loves to mark things!! Especially me, blech. You get used to it, and it's usually just a drop that you can easily wipe.

    But it's definitely possible to train them to p**p in the litterbox. Peeing in it depends on their personality.

    Basically you just put the litterbox in the cage (use a different bedding in the litterbox than in the cage) and take their poops and put them in the litterbox! Then he will notice they're all in there, and usually it's as simple as that. Sometimes it takes a while and you have to pick up accidents and put them in the box, but it's not too hard. Put it somewhere in the cage where they p**p the most. :}

  3. Well, male rats are a bit harder to litter train, beause of their tendancy to scent mark everywhere in the cage.  But you can train them to only drop their raisins (ratty p**p) in it.

    Females will have more of a tendancy to pee in the litter box as well.

    :] But Im used to my furry little girl, so dont listen to my persuasion. :D

    Good luck with your rattys!
