Can my uncle adopt me so I can go to college for free?

He is a veteran and any children he has can go to college for free. I am eighteen and live in Alabama.

at age 18 you are legally an adult in alabama there fore you are not at an adobtable age, sorry, apply for a pell grant for college.

No.  An adult adoption would not allow you to make use of his veteran's benefits.  It's been tried. Doesn't work. You had to have been adopted before turning 18.  The sole exception is that if your Uncle had been your guardian at least 1 year prior to 18 or became guardian because both of your parents were deceased (no time limit then).

I think it is a SAD state of affairs when our Americans kids have to go to extremes to pay for college.....My coworker and her hubby divorced so they could get better financial aide for their kids.
