Can my unit send me to JRTC with a P3 profile in the middle of a med board? Army Question?

A year ago last month, I injured my hand in Iraq during a raid. After months of attempting to fix the injury, I was medevacuated back to the states for surgery. The surgeon here said it was too late to operate, and my hand will get no better no matter what. I was put in for a MED board. I have a Permanent P3 Profile, that states I can't carry a weapon, I can't wear my full gear, and most of all I can't deploy. My MED Board is coming close to being over, but my unit is soon going to JRTC in Louisiana. They say that if I don't have orders to get discharged by the time we leave, I'm going with them. My problem is, I have the P3 non-deployable profile, even if the medical board decides I stay in. I have also finished my Phase 2 Physical, and know that there are regulations against me wearing any gear other than the standard uniform, doing any pt, and a few other notes. My question is, does anyone know what the AR is for limitations on what happens after the phase 2? And can my unit send me to JRTC if I have done my phase 2, and can't operate or carry a weapon? On top of all of this, my Med Board counselor tells me we should have an answer within the next month, but the unit is leaving in 2 weeks. My unit doesn't care what she says, because they are hurting so much for dudes that they're taking anyone they can.

  1. You might need to call your IG and file a complaint, although it may not do too much depending on your unit's intentions.  If your profile specifically states you are non-deployable they need to keep you back but a profile is more of a suggestion than a lawful order in most cases.  It could be hard to fight, especially if they are only taking you along to do details while everybody else trains.  When we last went to NTC we took soldiers who were on crutches with us so they can be on White Cell cleaning FOB Warrior while the non-profiles trained.  Most of them had profiles saying they couldn't deploy but they came anyway.

  2. You need to go to www.usapa.army.mil. Search the AR's and look for the Standards of Fitness Reg, that will tell you what they can and can not make you do. In my honest opinion you need to try to be as positive as you can, and do everything you can to appease to your higher command while on profile. It makes them madder when you fight them with the regulation and you beat them at their own game.
