  1. Not necessarily. Didnt you read in the papers last week about the ex-athlete now crippled with MS (i think) who was turned down because she could still - wait for it - talk!

  2. will her gp back up her application? if so you need to get an application form from the social services. fill it in and then return it with the fee, then sit back and wait.

  3. Ring your local council and ask to be put through to the office who deal with Blue badges. They will send you a form through the post for you to fill in. Get a recent passport sized photograph as you will have to send this with your application.

  4. ASK THE COUNCIL

  5. It depends on the disability and whether it would help her mobility.

If she is receiving d.l.a then she is halfway to doing it, ring up the benefits agency and ask for the huge "booklet" that you have to fill in to claim and do it now as they will date your wifes claim from the day they send it out to you.

She will have to fill in all the sections about her disability and why she finds it hard to get around etc., they will want your doctors name and address and if you wife has had dealings with a consultant at the hospital it will help your case to stick his name down too.

If your wife is granted a blue badge she will have to remember to reapply every three years as they dont send you out a reminder and she will need to send a new passport sized photo when she applies for the first time and also subsequent renewals.

It costs £2 for a renewal but the first one is free, if your wife is on the higher mobility rate she will also get free tax on her car which lasts a year.

Its worth finding out about this but be prepared for a knock back the first time as they seem to always do this, I dont know whether its to wheedle out the false claims but do reapply and keep on at them, you know how much red tape is attached to anything to do with the social.

Good luck, I know from experience how handy the badge is with parking etc., unfortunately I let mine run out and am now without a badge as I am waiting for the forms to be sent to me to reapply, its my own fault, as I say they dont remind you.
