  1. From everything that I have heard about them, no they cannot be tamed and will stay fairly aggressive. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?...

  2. you say your nile died of old age? they have over a 20 year life span when kept properly as opposed to 5-6 years when not kept properly.. your nile most likely died from years of substandard husbandry. 99% of all niles and savs in this hobby die this way. most if not all  people never raise them up to  true old age. your question  also shows you have also learned very little since having and losing your nile.monitors do not make good "pets" none do . they make awesome, hands off captives. another thing is your use of the word tame.people that think they have tame or can tame monitors do not know what they are talking about.  monitors play dead and stop moving when scared as a last resort.... soooo... a calm monitor in your hand isn't tame , it scared out of its mind. first they huff and puff and whip their tail till they are caught, and then when captured they freeze out of fright. also a monitor that is not kept at proper temps becomes sluggish and doesn't react much to people. again that's not tame that's being sick. experienced monitor keepers and breeders never use the word tame. thats not what a monitor is or should be.niles are for very experienced keepers with prior success keeping and breeding other, easier to keep monitors. period. stay away from niles until you have more monitor keeping under your belt. stay away from all monitors until you have had more than a  few years ,keeping and breeding other reptiles under your belt. you can spend 20 years keeping snakes and other lizards and have NO CLUE as to proper monitor care. do you research and start of right.

  3. I would say they can probally be tamed. Most wont but its possible to tame anything. My savannah monitor is tame and my deffinition of tame is that it will put up with you. I only hold it to get out of its cage when it wants out. I dont force it. I had to build trust with it to be able to. If you want a pet to hold a monitor is not for you. It may just put up with you for food or at the most maby let you pet it. Monitors and tame dont go good together

  4. maybe if handled properly right from the start. I got mine fairly young (only about 8 inches) and it was completely untameable. Most others have said the same thing.

But I am curious too. Will watch for the next answers

  5. not really. they are a very "wild" animal and almost all never turly become tame. they get used to u but will still snap and charge at u and other agressive behavior its just the way they are
