  1. no planes don't hover. Only UFOs and helicopters and hummingbirds hover. Forget drinking and driving you were drinking and flying!

  2. No !!!!!! too many beers

  3. No they can't

Edit for Rick - Intelligence Specialist USN? - perhaps you would like to have a look at http://www.raf.mod.uk/equipment/nimrodmr... and tell us all where the props are.

  4. No, they cannot hover. But if air speed matches their headwind, they can have no true forward motion.

  5. yes, if:

the forward speed of the Nimrod is matched exactly by the speed of the headwind

  6. The Nimrod is a maritime patrol aircraft developed in the United Kingdom. It is an extensive modification of the de Havilland Comet, the world's first jet airliner designed in the 1940s.   You may have it confused with the Kestrel the predecessor to the Harrier.

  7. No, it was the beer.

  8. I,LL AVE A PINT OF WOT YOUR DRINKING PLEASE

AND IM SURE I SAW THE TITANIC MOORED IN THE THAMES BY WESTMINSTER BRIDGE WITH HORATIO NELSON AND CAPTAIN KIRK PLAYING CARDS. LORD LUCAN WAS SCRUBBING THE DECK AND A HARRIER JUMP JET DRYING IT B4 LANDING

    PS YOUR ROUND

    PMSL

  9. No in fact they can barely fly

  10. no

think you had too many of them beers

  11. It depends on your perspective.

Were you on another aircraft?  Were you on the ground?

It also depends on atmosphereic conditions at the time.

Was it at night? Was it day? Was it humid? Was there a strong wind?

What you've seen is probably an "optical illusion" or simply the airplane flying really slow into a very strong wind, or a little bit of both.

  12. NIMRODS do not hover. Though these prop driven British and Canadian anti-submarine coast guard planes do fly very slow to be able to detect subs and use their electronic detection equipment.

I was an Intelligence Specialist. USN.

  13. No - I think the beers have you there sir....

  14. Only two types of 'plane in service can hover-the Harrier and the Osprey.

The Nimrod is a maritime patrol aircraft and can "loiter" by shutting down two of its four engines, but can't hover.

  15. They can't no if it goes too slow it would stall and more than likely crash

  16. no

  17. Depends on how many beers

    1 You have had?

2 How many beers the pilot has had?

3 How many beers the plane has had?

The more beers the more hovering is done. It's a fact of nature. Trust me I know

  18. You're thinking of the Harrier jump jet, Nimrods are specialists in radar for reckies.

    Harriers can hover all day.

  19. No they can't, they're a four engined maritime patrol and SAR aircraft, not a Harrier

  20. Beers aside, the Nimrod flying at a very low speed and with a stiff head wind equal to its Indicated Air Speed will most certainly hover. I would definitely second your testimony.

  21. No, they can't...

  22. yes but its not hovering it is called stalling and it wouldnt last more than a second before it dropped out the sky

  23. No No No No No!

    Try this one as well.....

If a helicopter hovers in London and the pilot has his eyes shut, will he be in New York in 5 hours due to the Earth's rotation!!!

  24. No, the Nimrod aircraft cannot hover, however it's development programme, on a good day, can, while its cost accelerates faster than a Typhoon. Only a few aircraft can hover - Harrier, JSF X35, and the Russuian Yak (Don't think that any of these, Yaks, are flying now though)
