  1. no

  2. Half the blu-ray players out there wont play alot of blu-ray disks wihtout going thru h**l to update them.  Stick with regular dvd till they figure out how to make blu-ray consumer friendly.  And no a regular dvd player won't read a blu-ray disk

  3. most players will play the disc but not in its high quality format. eventually there will not be a layer for standard   DVD but for now they should play the standard format. BIG-G,,,

  4. Blu-ray discs can only be played in a Bluray player, such as the PS3, or some other standalone player.

The PS3 is the best value at the moment, since it's easily upgradeable, it's the cheapest Blu-ray player out there, and you can also play games on it.

What people are thinking of is the 2 sided HD DVD discs that also contained the SD movie on the reverse side.  Blu-ray movies do not have that.  It's possible, but nobody does it.

So just in short: DVD players cannot play HD DVD (now discontinued) or Blu-ray.  Blu-ray and HD DVD can play normal DVDs, and their respective media, but not each other (ie, no HD DVD on a Blu-ray player unless you have a "combo" player.)

  5. Yes u'll need a different player

  6. No they can't.

It only goes the other way Blue ray players can play normal dvd discs.

We will have to buy new players.
