  1. A Pharmacist can access drug information.  That's their job.  As for the insurance information:  If this is the first time you've gone to the pharmacy, they will ask you for your insurance.  If you don't have insurance to help cover the costs of the medication, then you will be required by law to pay full price.

  2. IF you are in the pharmacy's files and they look up your name, the pharmacist CAN access your drug information and any insurance information you have on file.

If you are asking can a pharmacist access your insurance information and bill your prescription to your insurance only knowing your name, then the answer is no. They would need to know the name of your insurance company, your ID number and group number (provided to you by the insurance company) your relationship to the subscriber, if the insurance is through someone else like your parent or spouse. You must provide this information to the pharmacist, they have no way of accessing the information with just your name. (Just as if you walked into Sears and told them to bill your new washer and dryer to VISA but didn't have your charge card, or number, etc... There would be no way for them to "access" your VISA info to bill your account just by giving them your name.)

[edit] Please clarify your question. Are you asking if a pharmacist has a reason to ask you for more information than just your name to look up your information? They usually ask for a date of birth or phone number to make sure that they are accessing the correct files in case someone has the same or similar name to yours. Will they answer your questions or provide you with any of the information on file if you don't provide any other personal information or ID? No, because that would violate Federal Privacy Laws and they cannot give out that info or discuss it with you unless they are sure you are the individual named.
