  1. A cruise ship CAN sink.

One sank near the southern tip of South America I believe after striking an iceberg and was compared to the Titanic but unlike the Titanic everyone survived.

Statistically speaking it's quite safe - safer than driving your car anyway.

These days they have enough lifeboats and stuff.  Make sure you go through all the safety things and you'll be fine!

  2. Safe is a relative term.

Tens of thousands of people are killed and injured every month as a result of car accidents yet people feel "safe" enough to keep getting into them every day.

Compared to driving in a car, being on a cruise ship is VERY safe.

p.s.  Do yourself a favor and don't watch the movie, "Poseidon Adventure" right before you go.

  3. my family went on  a cruise and the weather actually was a bit rough. it was fine though, and it was fun!

there is always a chance, but if it were really bad, they would get a report about the storm and would not go through those waters, or simply stay within the eye.

if you are worried about the ship sinking, i mean a lot of people have anxiety about that kind of stuff.

but if you really have a bad feeling, it may be best to trust your insticts, thats all you can do.

i do hope that this cruise is a good experience for you, and i will pray your trip is safe=)

  4. as said in the movie Titanic.. a ship is made of steel and iron.. yes it will sink IF.. and that's a big IF, enough water gets in..

Today's modern ships are equpped with stabilizers, ballasts, latest in radars, sonars, computerized navigation...  and safety precautions are not by passed if you are sailing with a reputatable cruise line.

So yes, having said that, a chance of your ship going under is very remote.  Yes there have been ships that sank... but that's usually human error .. and nothing is safe from human error no matter what your form of transporation is.

I say, go have fun in the Fjords...don't worry about the seas... today's corporations that run these ships are more afraid of lawsuits than anything else... so they are not going ot jeopardize your safety in fear of lawsuits... enjoy!

  5. just think Titanic and you'll be fine

  6. Yes but it's unlikely. With today's satellite weather watching technology if there was a storm that was coming through to cause waves you are fearing in the path or anywhere near a cruise ship they would go around it or put into port and wait it out. Leave your fear at home and enjoy your cruise.

  7. one word for you:

    TITANIC

  8. Have fun, try not to worry so much.  The cruise ships have required drills that show you how to put on a life jacket and where the lifeboats are etc.  They take safety seriously.   If the waves are huge and they are washing onto the deck you are not going to be out there anyway.  I have gone on 6 cruises and the worst thing that happened is I got seasick one time.  What cruise line did you choose?
