Can one be an Australian without being an Aussie?

that Kentucken answer seems irrelevant , as Australian and Aussie are 2 separate words that can, but dont have to, mean the same thing

  1. Australian and Aussie are synonyms.

    Like British and Brit.

    Like New Zealander and Kiwi.

    Different from American and Yank.

    Australians like to turn words into 2 syllable words, often ending in ie.

    A sports song is "Come on,  Aussie, Come on, Come on....."

    At the Sydney 2008 Olympics the national cheer was "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie. Oi, Oi, Oi."
