  1. All surgeons are MDs.

  2. In the US being a medical doctor is a prerequisite to being a surgeon.

  3. Yes, whereas I chose to specialize in two internal medical specialties, my best friend chose to specialize in critical care medicine and trauma surgery.

Whereas I am only on call during my normal times, he is on call twice as much (but only works 1/3 more of the time than me).

  4. Yes

All doctor complete the basic medical doctor training.  After this they can choose a specialization such as surgery, pediatrics, oncology, etc.

  5. if you are asking if a physician can practice both internal medicine and surgery, the answer is yes. They are fairly rare but do exist. The doctor would earn their MD, and then complete two residencies.
