Can one file for unemployment benefits...?

Question

Separating the military and owe irs money for back taxes and currently making monthly payments for it. Could I still receive weekly assistance?

Yes you can file, and would most likely be eligible for benefits.

Owing back taxes has nothing to do with your eligibility for unemployment.

If you are unemployed, you may be able to have your tax account reclassified as currently not collectible until you are reemployed.
