Question:

Can one get contacts for near vision and glasses to wear, as needed (i.e. when driving), for distance vision?

My multi-focal contacts cannot provide clear vision both near and far, and I am considering going back to regular contacts. Since I'd rather not wear reading glasses all day in the office while I read and work at my computer, I'd love to only use glasses when I drive. That's about the only time it really matters that I see clearly in the distance.

  1. As far as I know, that shouldn't be a problem.  Your contacts would just make it as if you were slightly myopic and some distance glasses would allow you to see clearly in the distance.  Talk to your optometrist about it.  :)

  2. Usually the dr. will give you contacts and a pair of glasses to see up close. I doubt very highly they can give you a pair for distane while wearing contacts. Ask for some trials of more multifocal contacts. New ones come out all the time. Ciba and Cooper Vision just released a couple more.

    Try:

    Focus Dailies Progressives

    Acuvue bifocals

    Focus progressives

    Soflens Multi-Focal

    Frequency 55 Multifocal

    Proclear Multifocal

    Purevision Multifocal

    ....just to name a few

  3. If you are short sighted (myopic) yes is just a matter of getting corrective eyeglasses.
