Hi everyone I will be traveling to Vitoria, Brazil. I would like to get an idea on how expensive things are there. For example are restaurants reasonably priced? How about groceries, toiletries and clothes?

Thanks in advance.

  1. In big cities like Victoria, you will find a broad offer of products and services and also a broad price range... food is certainly cheaper than in US and Europe, but it depends what type of restaurant you are used to. If you don't mind having a simple meal, I would count with BRL 15 (including drink) which is about USD 10.

Clothes can be cheap or expensive, depending on the quality and brand you choose, but Brazilians are very fashionable and you may find some good shopping opportunities.

  2. Depends a lot on the items.

Brazil's capitals are now among the 40 most expensive in the world, to give you an idea, 2002 Rio as 136 and São Paulo 131 in the World Bank Ranking, now they rate 35 and 30 most expensive. San Francisco is 32.

Restaurants can be cheap, there's an abundance of restaurants by kilo in Brazil in which you'll pay between 10,00 and 25,00 for a meal (US 6,00 and 15,00).

Groceries are not expensive, unless you are going for fancy imports.

Utilities sometimes can be considered pricey for people living in the US. My phone bill is around US 200,00 a month, my cell phone around US 150,00. Electricity around US 200,00.

Of course it depends a lot on how much you spend.

  3. In Brazil the prices are lower than USA and Europe. I think here you will expend around the half part you would expend in the USA for the same items. I have been in USA and Europe and I know the prices there!!!

    For example:

    1 beer (600ml): R$ 2,50

    1 sandwich: R$ 3,00

    Hotel (3 star): R$ 120,00/day

    Lunch (simple): R$ 10,00

    US$ 1,00 = R$ 1,7

  4. Hi, that depends in which way you're going to travel. If you are going to a Hotel or some kind of Inn probably your meals you be already included on it. If you're going to rent a house or something like that the cost of groceries for a month (we call that

    "doing supermarket") is about R$ 250/U$ 150.

Restaurants are like in everyplace in the world, there are the expansive ones and the cheap ones. The fancy ones with French food and stuff you're going to pay over U$ 100 for a meal. The medium rate restaurants you can find in two ways of paying: self-service (you pay a value and eat as much u can =) ) and per kg (you pay for the weight of your meal). Both are about R$ 10-20/ U$ 6-12 for a meal. There are still a third

kind of restaurant here called "Churrascarias", this a kind of self-service but with a very diverse kind of meats, they waiters

keep bringing you differents kinds of meats during your meal and u don't pay any additional for it (we call that Rodizio, dont know if there are a word in English for that).

About toiletries i'll give u a idea about the most important itens:

    A good Shampoo is about R$ 3-6/U$ 1,80-3,60 .

Deodorants there are a lot of kinds, based in alcohol R$ 2-3/

    U$ 1,20-1,80, aerosol R$ 3-4/U$ 1,80-2,40 and R$ 5-6/U$ 3-3.6 for the dry ones (Rexona, Axe, Dove...).

    Hidratant creams R$ 2-7/U$ 1,2 - 4,2.

Protector solar depends of how light are your skin they're separated by FPS and can cost R$ 10 until 50/U$ 6-30... if you are very very white u need the FPS 50 and this is the U$ 30 one (but u just need to use it

if you're going to stay some hours in the beach).

Good cream bars are about R$ 0,5-2/U$ 0,3-1,2.

    Tooth paste R$1-3/U$ 0,6-1,8.

Hmm i think thats enough, i can't mind anything else u are going to need.

Clothes...there are every kind of clothes in Brazil, if you're going to buy grife clothes like Armani, Dolce&Galbana and stuff you're going to pay the same you pay there + some aditional tax for importation so this is not a good business. So i'll list here some thinks u may need.. bikinis u can pay R$10-50/U$ 6-30 i don't really see difference betwen the $10 and the 50$ but womans see ^^ as u are woman u must understand that...skirts, shorts, shirts are almost all in that same price.

U didnt asked that but i'll tell you the prices for somethings we usual buy:

    A beer or a soda 350ml R$ 2-3/ U$ 1.2-1.8.

    A snack R$ 1-2/U$ 0.6-1.2.

    A great bar of chocolate R$ 4-6/U$ 2.4-3.6.

    Mc'Donalds kit with a sanduwich+french fries+soda is about R$ 10/U$ 6

    Cigarrete (20) is about R$3 /U$ 1.8

Apologies for my bad english, hope it help you, have a nice travel. =)

  5. All the answers were good until this moment.

Things got expensive here for foreigners recently. Prices literally doubled the last 3 years compared to US dollars.

When you ask questions about Brazil always check if the person you are asking to had been here recently. People who came 5 years ago would be really surprised by the big changes the country experienced.
