Can one major in philosophy and get a job in a consulting firm?

  1. I believe it would be extremely difficult. Neither of those majors lends itself to the corporate world or consulting. My guess would be that 99% of the people who major in either one wind up teaching.

    Unless that's what you want to do, I'd consider changing majors to something else.

    You also need to remember that the corporate job market for people just out of college is very competitive. You need an edge if you're seeking to work in that environment, and that kind of education isn't it.


  2. It is very difficult to find a job directly tied to one's major these days. I guess that it has always been that way, but the economy has made things more difficult. My opinion is that a philosophy major can do about anything he or she wants. Philosophy trains a student for a range of jobs. As a philosophy student, one should develop critical thinking skills or precision of thought. Those skills can be used almost anywhere. All the best.
