I thought about starting a yahoo group, but it looked like a person would have to have more than one yahoo account or yahoo email address for it to work. Is it possible to have a yahoo group with the same email address as what you have on yahoo already, especially if you have other yahoo stuff on the same account already like 360, messenger, answers, my yahoo, etc? Especially, if you want to start a private, need permission from group starter or moderator to join to be a member or post comments/messages kind of group. If not how does one set up a yahoo private group?

  1. Check out the Search Engine site below.  That will most likely give you an answer.

  2. you only need one address, but you will have to make an address for the group, which is basically not under your control, but if you post a message on the group it is sent to that email, and the forwarded to all the other members of the group.

  3. Here is how you can create a new Group:

    1. Go to Yahoo!s homepage, from the left hand side list choose "groups"

    2. When the pages comes, there is box which says "Easy as 1-2-3. Start your group today." Click on it.

    3. Then you enter to your Yahoo mail address.

    4. You have 3 steps to create your yahoo group, which are: Categorize, Describe and Select Profile

And here is additional info from Yahoo!:

How do I start a new group?

It’s easy to start a group. Just click Start a Group on any Yahoo! Groups page. We'll walk you through a simple set-up process and presto, you’ll have a group!

It’ll get listed in the Yahoo! Groups directory within a few days, in the category that you select during the set-up process. Occasionally, our team of category editors comes across groups they feel have been miscategorized, and if this happens with your group, we’ll let you know.

    Can I restrict membership? How?

Yes. If your group is designed for a specific set of people (and not the general public) and you want to control membership, then you should choose to make your group restricted, which means you approve all memberships.

You’ll need to send invitations to the people who might want to join.

Here’s how to make your group restricted:

    1. Go to your group's homepage.

    2. From the list on the left, click Management. This link only appears if you’re the owner of the group or a moderator with the appropriate privileges.

    3. Under "Group Settings", click "Membership".

    4. Click Edit next to "Membership Type & Welcome Message".

    5. Choose "Restricted" next to "Membership Type".

    6. Click Save Changes.

  4. you have to be logged into to yahoo to create a group. it should link that account to your group. as long as the name of the group is not being used, you can have any name you want. if the title cant be used, it'll tel you. you can create a group name to be anything.

private means a closed group, which is invites only. consider this carefully since invites are glitchy.

need permission to join is restricted- and if you choose this and want to gain members through the directory list, the name of the group shoul dhave key words per topic of that group so it can be found easier.
