I know the minimum age is 18, but can on start, and therefore find out about acceptance before turning 18, with the knowledge that service would not start until after actually turning 18?

  1. First off: do you speak a language other than English? What is your area of expertise? What is your experience living or working in conditions with low/no infrastructure? If you don't have answers to these questions, then you aren't going to be accepted as a PeaceCorps volunteer at so young an age. It's a highly competitive process, and the other candidates have degrees in areas that are needed in the developing world (biology, child education, vocational training, journalism, and on and on), as well as lots of local volunteering experience and lots of experience working with immigrants, children, people with disabilities, people with HIV/AIDS, or other at-risk groups.

Here is a web site that can help you learn more about the skills and experience desired by long-term placement organizations, and how you can gain that experience locally.

  2. ya my mate was 17

  3. I'm sure you could.  Why not go to www.peacecorps.gov and ask them?

  4. Fill it out and turn it in with an availability date after your 18th birthday.
