  2. a buddy of mine wanted to do that a few years ago,

    it seems you can't work there ( earn money) for a while. so, unless you have the means to live without working, it may be a challenge.

    I imagine its still the same

  3. The first answer said it all.

    You can, however, get by on subsistance jobs in the tourist areas.

    You also said "legal resident" in USA not citizen of USA; nationality makes a difference.

    If you are really dedicated, as well as skilled and patient, you can find a job with a company in Ireland--Irish or other--and they will obtain a work permit for you.

    If you are wealthy, you can buy your way in.

    P.S.  Just use the official rules as guidelines, not absolute.
