so if something doesn't have the triangular recycle logo anywhere on it, does that mean it's not recyclable? for example, the plastic cover that comes with when you buy a stack of CDs. it's plastic.. but there's no recycle sign anywhere on it.

should i contact the company and ask or should i just assume it's not recyclable? are all companies required to put the logo there if it is?

  1. Almost anything can be melted down, shredded, crushed, reprocessed, filtered, liquified, seperated, and/or RECYCLED if we humans really put out minds & money to it.

I read a (short) article about how 1 tire could yield <so many> gallons of fuel-stuff and 2 pounds of steel for reuse. NOW THERE'S AN IDEA!

  2. Not having the logo doesn't really tell you anything.

The example you give is a type of plastic, and all plastics can be recycled.  However, you need to know which type it is (which is what the labelling is there for), and you need to find somewhere that will take it.  Most councils in the UK, for example, collect types 1 and 2 (because these are both common and easy to identify), but collections for other types of plastics are rare.

  3. You can recycle all sorts of things.

    Use http://www.planetark.com

You local council will know what you can.

  4. the triangle with the numbers in it, 1-9 are voluntary.  It was created by the plastic industry to make recycling easier for them.

If you are not sure what is recycelable, contact the company to ask what material was used to create the item in question.  depending on where you live plastic types 1 and 2 are usually the ones that are always recyclable.
