  1. What, so the Constitution allows you the right to free speech but not your teacher?  Fired is a big action for such an offense.  If there is more you would like to share, such as this teacher took their actions to the next level, then OK, but simply being open, no way.

  2. Open about who they? No.

Actively recruiting new lovers from the student body? Bad news - g*y or straight. Should be zero tolerance for every teacher.

But it is inappropriate and dangerous and not in good judgment to talk about your personal life in the classroom to that extent anyway.

  3. It depends upon what you mean by being open.  If you mean should they be fired because they say they are g*y or straight, or because they mention their partner in general conversation, then absolutely not.  People have a right to be who they are and not to try to hide it.    If, however, they talk about actual s*x in the classroom, and it isn't a s*x education class, then that would be inappropriate, be they g*y or straight.  I can't imagine any of my straight, married teachers having talked about their intimacy with their spouses to us, and I would be equally freaked out if they had done that or if a g*y teacher had talked about intimacy with their partner.

  4. I don't think teachers should be fired because of their sexuality.  But they shouldn't discuss it with students, nor should they try to have a relationship with a student (straight or g*y).  Keep work things at work and personal things outside of the classroom.  Any other way and you're playing with fire.

  5. Can they ? No

Should they ?   No more than any hetrosexual teacher that flaunts it or is openly sexual in their conduct.

  6. No, their sexuality is not important and it does not dictate their teaching ability.

  7. Why? What does that have to do with anything?

  8. I think they should at least be reprimanded...no matter which way you swing, it should IN NO WAY be discussed or "shown" to students. This is not professional at all. I'd be VERY upset if my daughter or son's teacher flaunted their sexuality. Its flaunted enough in society, they don't need it while getting their education.
