According to Classic Economic Theory they should want to that if they can earn the profits needed to stay in the energy and fuels businesses!

  1. We're addicted to oil and it's going to stay that way until we run out of "cheap oil."  We can't rely on the oil companies to transition away from fossil fuels because they will continue focusing on oil until it's not profitable for them to do so.  As long as the US is addicted to it's SUVs and suburbia, we are going to be addicted to oil.  There is no other energy source that can substitute oil at the rate we use it.  Yes, wind power, geothermal, solar, etc are all good, but unless the US actually slows it's consumption and starts using less energy, we're going to continue to use oil.  Unless we turn the entire US into a solar or wind power farm, it can't compete with oil.  Americans need to start consuming responsibly for there to be a change.

My personal opinion, we're not going to start using alternative energy sources until gas is over $15/gal and people simply can't afford to live the oil-based energy hungry lives they're living now.  We have to reduce our energy consumption before alternative energy on a wide scale is actually viable.

  2. Put it this way: If an addict asked for help to brake an addiction to drugs, gambling, alcohol, etc., would you recommend the Dealer that encouraged the addiction all the way  to the gutter?

For reasons mentioned by others, most do not, or can not, face the new reality, we refuse to accept and become aware of the decline in our economy due to the many Hundreds of Billions we send out to pay for our addictions to oil and drugs.

But, the consequences are coming and if we do not plan for them, they are still coming but it will be worse.

    You Exaggerate! Many will say.

About three days ago I saw an episode of ABC's Nightline about a family that bought their Dream Home far away from the city and now, suddenly? They spend $1,000 per month in gasoline to commute.

They had to stop making house payments.

Yet, they spoke of no plans on how to cope.

Is this because they were in 'Denial'?

By refusing to face Reality, it will go away?

How many others are there like that?

No, we cannot trust the Oil Companies because they depend on OPEC to justify all their huge profits.

  3. The oil Co. is the only way to go. Oboma's dream is suicide.

  4. The move away from fossil fuels to better energy resources is going to be slow. Before we can even think about doing this on any grand scale the U.S. must have the infastructure in place. Right now there is very little available for alternative energy. The general public is satisfied with gasoline. A 70% plus approval rating by the people for domestic oil drilling proves this. Taking this into account, (unless there is a drastic turnabout of events) other forms of transportation and renewable energy will decline.
