  1. It depends.

1080i is really a "720p" model, while 1080p is  exactly that. That means the numbers of pixels (dots) that make up the picture are larger in the 1080p than 720p model (which actually may have 720 or 768 or some other similar number of pixels .. even if called a 720p display) ... and therefore, in theory, there is the possibility of seeing more detail in the 1080p model.

BUT, whether you will actually see a difference depends on several things:

    - size of the display. Under 37" or so you aren't likely to see much if any differences under all but ideal conditions.

    - How close you sit. If you sit further than optimum from the 1080p display it may not look any different than the 720p display.

    - If you are watching TV, it is a maximum of 1080i (and may be less), so the 1080p model may not be getting a good enough signal to show it's full capability.

    - various types of video processing artifacts could be making the image less than optimum, making differences difficult to see.

You really need a true 1080p signal (e.g. Blu-ray) to be sure the 1080p model is able to display the best picture it can.

All that said, resolution is the 4th most important determinant of picture quality (after dynamic range/contrast ratio, colour saturation and colour accuracy).

Bottom line ... a 720p ("1080i") display can be indistinguishable from, or even look better than, a 1080p display under certain circumstances.

  2. not that much diff also interlaced is better for fast images like sports proggresive scan is maybe a little crisper but not that you could tell if they were side to side and only if it is over 42 inch.
