Can parakeets survive the wild?

I have two parakeets, male and female. The male escaped one day when I was on vacation. (Long Story!) I trusted my friend to take care of them, because I let her take care of them last time I went on vacation. They was alright. But she said she was vacuuming, and left the door open, and it flew right out. (I forgot to mention that she left the cage open so they could walk around, fly inside my house.) I said to my friend, "Who the h**l leaves the d**n door open if there's parakeets loose inside?!?!"

only if the temparature is mild.  not too hot or cold and as long as they live somewhere with seeds or small bugs.

They could. Problem is finding food and being easy prey for cats and prey birds.

Also most birds will fly up, to tree branches, but don't know how to fly down.

However, the good news is if your birds are use to flying up & down in the house they have a better chance in the wild.

Call the lost bird, loud and often. Many times the bird will stay close to home, in shrubs, tree's, Etc. So call and look every where close to your home.

Put up poster's and place a free Lost Ad in local newspaper.

That depends on where you live.  Budgies are native to Australia and yours will probably be fine as long as the weather is good.  But it will be an easy target for cats, dogs, hawks, etc. if it has no experience with predators.

If it's tame enough, it may approach someone looking for a handout.  Put up flyers, etc, and contact local vets and animal shelters in case someone reports finding it.

yes they can survive.  I would suggest putting some treats outside your home because your keet may still be nearby.  I would also post a lost ad on the following website:
