My parrotlets have successfully laid eggs and kept their eggs until they hatched. They are looking after the chicks well and the chicks look healthy. However when I seperate the chicks from the parents, can I keep the chicks in the same cage or do I have to seperate them?

  1. Let the parents raise the chicks as long as they don't try to harm them is best.

Makes for better pet birds too.

Be sure you feed the parents healthy avian foods, they need to be healthy to feed and care for the chicks.

Unless there is a problem, don't handle the chicks at all until

the parents are ready to give them up.

  2. yes they can

  3. Hi I breed pacific parrotlet mutations. You can leave clutchmates in together for about 5 or 6 months. Parrotlets sometimes will try to breed as early as 8 months, which is not good for hens. Hens that try to breed before a year could run the risk of becoming egg-bound and dying. So separating the males and females at around 5 or 6 months is usually safe. If you see them starting to pair up before- then take them out. Clutchmates will breed with each other, which could result in smaller babies with weaker immune systems.
