Can people live *on* the equator?

Question

I know that the equator runs through a few continents, but what exactly *happens* when you enter the equator? Is the time-zones different? Weather different? Tax shelters different? (lol)

The equator is jsut the line that marks the center of the Earth and its hottest parts, its not a physical area except the fact that its hotter there then anywhere else on Earth.  Even the temeprature doesn't suddenly change when you go near the equator, its slowly gets higher from the poles to the equator and then drops to the poles again.

equator is the line in the (horizontal)middle the earth... if a place is on the equator...the weather will be tropical because it recieves most sunlight.....

When you cross the equator, the seasons change. Summer in the Northern hemisphere is winter in the Southern hemisphere.

Also, while the seasons do technically change, the locals wouldn't take much notice. People living around the equator experience nearly monotonous temperatures every day of the year. In Belem, Brazil the average January temperature is 77F and it changes to 79F in July.

The equator is the line between the two poles, right down the middle of the earth. Weather: always warm and rainy (where do you think the rain forest comes from). Time zones are not influenced by being on the equator, and yes, people can live on it! there are countries on the equator - Equador, Brazil to name just a few. Not many people choose to live there, and I couldn't do it because I can't stand the heat, but yes, people can live on the equator.

Yes, they can, and do.  Many residents of Quito, Ecuador (see the resemblance in those names?) live along the Equator.  Nothing unusual happens there, as far as the equator is concerned, however.
