Question:

Can people "fix" misspellings on embroidery?

My husband got a shirt from a club he is in and they misspelled his name. The club says they can't get it fixed since they had to send it across the country to get it done. Can people undo the name and re-do it or will that mess up the shirt?

  1. As many stitches as were talking about, like hundreds, yes it would mess up the shirt.

He may get the shirt company to send him a new shirt with the correct spelling.

  2. If the embroidery company is reputable, they should own up to their mistake and replace the shirt.  Depending on how bad it is, you could take a Sharpie marker the same color of the shirt and shade out the mistake.  If you start ripping out the embroidery, it may create holes and the shirt would be ruined.  If the shirt was free, don't sweat it, but if he paid for it, make them fix it.

  3. There will be too many holes from the stitching. Who made the mistake? Somebody owes him a new shirt.

If he doesn't want to rock the boat, you could call your local shop that sells embroidery machines, and ask for names of customers who are trying to earn money to pay for the machine they bought.

Pick out all the stitching and ask them to apply stabilizer to the holes,  and then to embroider his name big enough to cover the stabilizer.

    .

  4. I have removed many blunders from shirts etc...it can be done and is time consuming...there is also a special tool available for us embroiderers that help remove the stitching...If the font used is very thin & linear with it would be extremely hard but not impossible...But then again I am always up for a challenge!  LOL

  5. Yes, it's called getting a new shirt!!!

My name is unusual and I do my best to get it properly spelled. If they didn't bother to ask me how to spell my name and gave me something with the incorrect name, then a new one is owed. If they did ask me and the printer got it wrong, the printer owed my a new one.

It is so awful having your name incorrectly spelled. It also amazes me how much disregard people have for names and for trying to get it right. People do not pronounce names correctly and certainly don't spell them correctly either - and they just don't care about it at all. I just suppose since the shoe is on my foot, I am more conscious of it.

Bottom line, the "club" should care that he has a shirt without his proper name. It isn't your husbands faulth they couldn't get an embroiderer closer to home!

    Good luck.

  6. It is not impossible to remove the name but would be a lot of work. There are a lot of stitches in a name and each has to be ripped out and then wash the shirt, apply the stabilizer and then restitch the name. Call someone in your area that does embroidery and see what they would charge to do it for you. I have just finished working on 10 karate uniforms that had to have a logo removed and then replaced it with the correct one.So it can be done but it is a lot of work.
