I was watching the show Weeds and Celia went into a store Mexico and this dude was trying to sell her Xanax and other prescription meds. Does that really go on like that?

  1. Oh, I'm sure it does.

  2. i was told you can buy any drug in a pharmacy without a prescription; i've been many times, but i never tried it; before my Dad died, he and his wife used to drive down there all the time to buy their meds because of the cheaper price

  3. I buy my heart and diabetes meds in Mexico every year because the price is about 40% of U.S. prices. Whenever I cross the border back to the U.S., customs checks the meds for Controlled Substances. if you don't have a Doctors Rx for Controlled Substances, you are arrested for smuggling dope.

I see people stopped every year because they have schedule IV controlled substances with them, and thought they could bring them back to the US because they could buy them over the counter in Mexico.

So the answer is yes, you can buy Xanax, but you can't bring it back to the U.S.

  4. I've heard things like that too, but I don't think you'd be able to get them past Border Patrol.  And the worst part is that you'd have to sit in a Mexican jail for awhile!  I'd advise you to go see a Dr. in the USA & explain your problems & why you think you need them.  It may not be Xanax you need.  DO NOT self diagnose your problems!

  5. Drugs that are not on the controlled substances list can be purchased over the counter without a prescription at any pharmacy (e.g. Farmacia Moderna) in Mexico.

However, it is best to see a doctor in Mexico before prescribing something for yourself to combat infections that you get while you are on holidays.  Some people buy and take antibiotics for a viral infection even though they should only be used for bacterial infections.

  6. Yes. You do not need a prescription to purchase anything from a pharmacy; you can just walk in and make your purchase.

  7. There are fake pharmacies in border towns that will sell you stuff that is not what they say it is.  Xanax is a controlled substance in Mexico just as it is in the U.S.  You must have a doctor's prescription and no pharmacy is going to sell it to anyone without a prescription...they do not want to loose their license.  No honest pharmacy...which is the great majority of real pharmacies is going to take a chance on breaking the law with controlled drugs...that is a VERY bad idea.  Unscrupulous people in border towns will scam you...AND turn you in to the local cops for trying to buy controlled substances...a VERY bad idea.  I am an American living in Mexico...and know of no pharmacies in my area that will sell controlled substancess without a doctor's order.

  8. No. No one is "pushing" drugs in Mexican pharmacies. You have to ask for what you want. There are some medications we need a script for here are available there without a script but the rest are the same as here. Some drugs we have here are not available at all in other countries.  One big difference in Mexico (other countries as well) is that they have different types of pharmacists there. The top ones can prescribe medications as well as fill scripts.

The authorities there and here tend to frown on people going there for heavy drugs.  It is can be impossible to get those back into the states without a prescription.

  9. hi,  yes it does & u don't need a script either all u need is a bottle with an old prescription on it for whatever it was that u used & they will fill it again even if u have no refills.  so u can get anything there & also in the dominic republic too cuz it's common there for that stuff to be done there also.  i know that for a fact.  bb
