You can do, but getting in can be difficult.  My friend was working in Afganistan and invited me out, but the only way I would have been able to get there (had I wanted to) was via a UN flight from Pakistan.  

Once you are there it would be tricky to move around, but if you really really wanted to there is no reason why you cant.
