  1. Hi,

    First of all, Congratulations!

I just had a Mirena IUD (not a copper one). And I never had any pregnancies or births. For both devices, they only RECOMMEND that you have a child first, but it's not in any way, a requirement.

I went to Planned Parenthood, & that's where I got the info, & the insertion. However, I have heard of very few cases where doctors won't suggest it. Maybe because of the device's recommendation?? I dunno.

But Planned Parenthood shouldn't be a problem. I'm 24, 5'4, 110lbs....I'm a small thing. Never had a pregnancy, but I had it done.

Mirena is 5 years. Copper is 10 years. My doctor at the clinic told me Mirena is better for your periods, where the copper usually makes your periods more heavier & painful. After 6 months it should start to calm down.

The Mirena lightens the periods, & after a year, a person may even not have a period anymore (until device is removed.)  I was confused at first, but when I asked my doctor about that, she said its normal, & doesn't affect fertility at all.

The process of insertion, it feels like severe cramping. It's no picnic, haha... They offered me a shot to numb it, but I don't like needles. So I choose cramping instead. At one point, I kinda wished I had the shot, but it's over in like 5 minutes. but it's only like severe cramping.

Take an IB Profin before you go. When I drove home, it was cramping all the way, until the IB Profin kicked in

    I hope this helps!

Blessings to you and your future marraige! :)

  2. having an IUD has nothing to do with having had a child or not, you can have one at any time. It just stops any egg implanting in the womb so that you cannot get pregnant. I have had one put it and it was fine, did not hurt to put it in and it will last for 10 years. Only down side at the moment is very heavy and painful periods which I never used to have, but have been told that this will get better over time. Afraid I don't know anything about endometerisos, but if doctors say it will help, then go for it!

  3. There is an IUD that women can use who haven't yet had kids. Your Gynecologist will know what it is. I think it is a copper one that doesn't use hormones. I thought it sounded great.
