I want to know if people who use the underhand serve can become professionals. I use the underhand serve myself. If can, name me examples of people. I will give the best answer rewardingly.

  1. yes, i believe so. most teams would probably like to have you be able to do an overhand serve, and it is also probably more intimidating to use an overhand serve too but i dont think it really matters.

    hope this helps. (:

  2. Sinjin Smith dominated on the beach with a skyball (underhand). But it went 100 feet in the air before it came back down so it it was very hard to pass. In indoor the ceiling gets in your way so its hard to do a skyball.

  3. ok John, u are so wrong so stop talking right there. girls CAN play volleyball and its more common for girls than guys so oh burnnnnn. and yeah u probably could. idk but as others have said overhand is much better. but right now make sure u have underhand like...perected, then during practices start overhands until u get good at it, then try it in a game. if u miss it, go back to underhand and practice it again at practice.

  4. no your a failure at life if you can't overhand serve i no a 50 pound 6th grader who can overhand serve. practice

  5. yes, if you are typically a front row player, your coach can sub in another player or a libero to serve for you... overhand is wayy more impressive - but not imperative

  6. Well you can never rule it out, but if they did serve underhand it would not be all the time.

Most good players have a variety  of different serves in their arsenal, like back spin, topspin, sidespin, floaters, jump serves, jump floaters, etc.

By the time a player becomes a professional they have had thousands of hours of practice and prob. millions of touches on the ball. That leaves a lot of time to develop killer serving skills. That is usually overhand or jumpserve.

however, I have seen people on the club circuit that can send a underhand right over the net and drop it into holes-but as the level of competition increases, so does the quickness of players serve receiving. And since the underhand serve is usually alot slower it lessens the probably that there will be a hole when the ball gets there.

If you need help w/ learning how to serve overhand go to a serving camp at a nearby university or you can ask me for advice. :]

  7. first of all girls cannot play volley

  8. At a professional level, serves are expected to be difficult to return. In most cases, that means a serve that starts high (Over your head) and slopes down.

An underhand serve must go upwards, then peaks above the net and then slopes down. The very nature of the serve makes it very easy for professionals to pass.

However, if you can create strange action with your serve, it may be possible that you can add it to your list of serves. Because most importantly, you should have about 4 to 5 different serves that you use regularly.

To be honest though, I would never want anyone on my team to serve underhand on game point. It's like giving the other team a free ball.
