  1. In the British Army all commissioned officers are allowed to carry swords.  The only non-commissioned officer to do so would be the Regimental Sergeant Major (WOI).

However, swords/sabres are part of the ceremonial uniform of the majority of cavalry units.

  2. I was in the Navy, retired a Chief, only Officers got a sword.  Well, they had to buy them.

  3. I was in the army, but served at a base with all services.  Marines got swords if they were officers or NCOs.

  4. If you're in the Marine Corps, you'll get an NCO sword once you become an NCO (E-4: Corporal). If you're an officer, you get an officer sword. The reason we have an NCO sword is because we were honored during the battle of Tripoli for our fighting ability. As you can see, none of these other services had such low ranking individuals honored!

The sword is not a functional part of the uniform, FYI, and is only used in drill and dress occasions.

  5. it is a required part of the uniform for O4 and up.  it is OPTIONAL for  E7-O3 and up.  it is not authorized below E7.

they are also expensive as all get out.. DH's cost $300.  and uhh.. you don' receive it.. it must be purchased..out of pocket.

  6. Army,

    Warrant officer and Commisioned Officer

  7. Not really part of the army uniform, but they do have a saber that each company commander/1st sgt maintain as a symbol of command.

  8. In the British Army you receive a sword from Commissioned Officer. This is 2nd Lt and up but you don't always carry the sword. You only carry this whilst in full dress uniform and only certain regiments carry swords.
