  1. I think if they stopped people donating blood because they are stressed then very few people would be able to donate!

  2. Currently, yes. The people who CAN'T donate blood are as follows:

    People under 17

People with infections or certain chronic diseases

    People with certain cancers

People who've ever recreationally used an IV needle

People who've engaged in MSM conduct (seriously...)

People who spent lots of time in the UK in the eighties or 90's (Mad Cow)

  3. they can, as long as they don't tell whoever  is drawing their blood that. if your not feeling well they will not take your blood.

  4. As far as I know, yes you can, providing it doesn't impact your blood pressure too seriously.

I try to give blood as often as possible and I don't exactly lead a stress free life - I manage a lab and do research, so there are always deadlines and paperwork and such looming not to mention that I have a menagerie at home (9 cats and 3 dogs, 2 of whom are very high energy).

Here's a list of conditions (from the American Red Cross) that would mineligibleelibible to donate blood (I've included a link to the web page where you can read more in the sources section):

    Acupuncture

    Age

Allergy, Stuffy Nose, Itchy Eyes, Dry Cough

    Antibiotics

    Aspirin

    Asthma

    Birth Control

    Bleeding Disorders

    Blood Pressure, High

    Blood Pressure, Low

    Blood Transfusion

    Hemochromatosis

    Herpes (see Sexually Transmitted Disease)

    HIV, AIDS

    HPV (see Sexually Transmitted Disease)

    Weight

  5. Sure.  Stress isn't a medical condition that prevents donation.  Only things like infections would make blood unsafe for another person.

Obviously, the blood centers are also concerned about the safety of the donors, but just being stressed shouldn't put you at greater risk for having a bad reaction.

Just make sure you drink plenty of non-caffeinated beverages and eat a good meal before you donate, and you should be fine!
