  1. it all comes down to the local rules. There is no federal law that prohibits it. It also depends on how bad your depression was. Good luck.

  2. I cannot comment on the legal factors, but can only give you life advice.  I would not do it.  The job of a police officer is a very depressing job.  The occassional thrill of the chase or the manhunt does not come very often, and most of the time, you will be sent out to deal with events after they have occurred.  You will see the lowest of the low in our society; people addicted to drugs, families that abuse their kids, murder, assault, etc.  If you already have a history of depression, this may drag you down over the edge.

Remember, suicide is quite common for police officers.  Don't set yourself up to fail.

    Good luck!!

  3. First, since you have not been diagnosed, you have no history. If you apply for police type work, you will be given a psychological evaluation.

  4. If you have not been to a Dr to diagnosis depression, then you do NOT have a history of depression.

Do not let fear of not being able to be a cop stop you from getting help. It MAY bar you, but that all depends on treatment, the dept, what kind of depression etc...the variables are way to many to give any type of an accurate answer. Each situation would be taken on a case by case basis.

As of now though, you do not have a history if you have not been seen by a Dr.

  5. well they wont be able to find out if you dont tell them . but then agian We dont need people with anger type issues working our jails could get ugly.
