  1. Yes - to some extent this is true, especially with the older model plasmas. The new units have methods of preventing this. Pioneer states that their new "Orbital Pixel" system will totally prevent burn-in, while Samsung states that their Anti-Burn-In systems such as Auto Pixel Shift, Signal Pattern Process and, All White, will prevent burn-in altogether.

Most plasma TVs will probably never have a problem with image retention. Carelessness -- i.e., not paying attention to what your TV is displaying and for how long is really the leading cause of permanent burn-in. No one can tell you 100% that plasmas won't burn-in. It's a plasma display with phosphors, so burn-in is a distinct possibility. You can help to "break in" your plasma display for the first 200-500 hours of use to keep it from burning in if you keep the brightness below 50% for the first 250 hours of use; refrain from watching video sources with static images, such as video game HUDs, menus or TV sports scoreboards; and try to watch all widescreen progressive video sources.

  2. Yes

You can burn in images on CRT (cathode ray tube, classic tube TV) AND Plasmas.

This does not happen to LCDs and DLP televisions though.

You can play games and pause games. Just do not play the same game for hours on end. If you walk away with the game paused for 10 minutes or so change the channel on the TV. They do not burn in instantly. Look in the manual. My Tv tells me what percentage of time I can leave it on one image without having to worry about burn in.
