  1. u tend to hav to be on a plane

  2. I suppose if he or she flies a UAV they could e-commute.

But federal regulations prohibit aircraft operation without a pilot at the controls and most aircraft aren't suitable for permanent habitation (just imagine living on airline food).

  3. You work where the company wants you to, and when they want you there.  You don't have an office in most cases, unless you are a Chief Pilot or Examiner, or one of those roles that is partly administrative.  Your office is the flight deck, and its purpose is to be far from "home" as much as possible.  You do most of your paperwork in the flight deck or in a motel room.

  4. In this career you will have several jobs, and your base will not usually be your home town.

  5. You mean at the Home airport right? The nearest one?

It depends on Airlines if you have gain enough respect(with hours) then you may choose where you wanna fly to and from.

At least that is the case in East.

  6. It would be hard to work at home when your job is flying planes, unless you had a really big house.

  7. Perhaps your question is "Does a pilot have to live in the city that he/she is based in?"  If that is what you are asking, the answer is no.  There are plenty of pilots who "commute" to their base.   I once had a Delta pilot as a neighbor who lived in Texas but commuted to his base in Atlanta.

  8. It's kind of difficult to work at home, unless your home is at the airport.  Seriously, though... As an airline pilot, you can live pretty much anywhere you want to live, as long as you can make it to your next scheduled departure on time.  There are lots of pilots deadheading all over the world to get from home to their next flight.

  9. If you don't own the aircraft or charter service, and work for a company than you have to go where the jobs are, if there are no jobs in the us and they are hiring in asia, well you go to asia if you want a job.

  10. Shawn, the short answer to your question is "no." The reason is that a pilots job is to pilot an aircraft, and this is not possible to do while not being in the aircraft, generally speaking. Would you get on an airplane with no pilots, and a sign in the cockpit saying that "Captain Jones and crew are flying this aircraft from the comfort of Captain Jones' home?" I would not, and I don't think many other  people would either.

    Regards,

    Dan
