  1. Tony F: the ball is in play for much longer in Union: if you have bad luck, a single play could last 40 minutes!

  2. Yes but there's different rules for rugby union(15 players) and rugby league(13 players). My son plays union but personally I prefer league.

  3. Yes they can but the 15 a side players find that there fitness levels need to increase dramticvally as the 13 a side game is much faster and the ball is in play for much longer.

However until fairly recently those who played/coached or were involved in Rugby League(13a side) were banned completely from having anything to do with rugby union. This was highlighted many years ago when an international union player who happened to live in Lancashire was asked to help out training some boys at his local school.

Word somehow got out and he was duly banned from playing rugby union ever again or having any attachment even as a coach. Talk about discrimination.

That is why until the 1980's there were lots of of ex rugby union players who decided League was better for them and as a sport RL has always been a sport for all.

These days it is a persons civil right to play either sport and come and go as they please.

For your information you CAN play both sports at the same time and it has been done recently, League in England is a Summer sport and Union is a Winter sport

Hey 'El Puma' I've never seen a RU game that had 40 minutes of the ball in play out of an 80 minute match never mind one play & FYI 9 or 10 guys in a maul leaves out the rest of the players(20 in total) In league you are never static, in union this is often the case, hence why union lads find it hard to play league without extra fitness preparation.

  4. Union is for soft men, why would anybody want to play it?

  5. only a few league players have made successes of switching codes, and I would argue this is on account of the game's greater complexity.

  6. Why can't union and league fans just agree to disagree?

The answer to the question is yes, union (15) players can play league (13) and vice versa.

League and union both have the same size pitch and shaped ball. They both try to score tries and kick the ball over the 'H' shaped posts. Beyond that the games are worlds apart with different rules and interpretations that will appeal to different people.

Personally I prefer, nay love rugby league. I don't hate union or its supporters, I just don't find it as entertaining (my personal opinion). There will always be reasons why one is better than the other and people will then refute these reasons but, at the end of the day, it's just personal opinion.

Let's stick to just answering the questions eh.

  7. Yes they can but they most probably will not because the money isnt in rugby 13

  8. Not well ;-)

  9. They could but not both. If you ever lived in the north you would know the difference. League players would look down on the faster lighter game as being for sissies and regard anyone crossing over as a traitor..

  10. 15 players - rugby union

    13 players - rugby league

There have been several instances of players changing fom one to the other, they call it "switching codes".

  11. League is tick rugby...no stealing the ball in the rucks and mauls (there aren't any)..you give a dinky back-pass when tackled. Scrums are a farce in league (non-contested..why??).

Union is a MUCH more popular game...compare the popularity of the Union World cup and the League equivalent. No contest!

Only a few towns up north eg Wigan, Bradford etc play league and many fewer countries play it than Union.

If you're going to play rugby...play the proper game..UNION!

'Music is the world' is deluding himself. Would he say that Jonah Lomu was soft (to his face)?..I think not.

  12. They can do but not at the same time as they are both winter sports it is near impossible (dependent on location).  Rules differ alot From Rugby Union (15 per side) then Rugby League (13 per side).  Rugby Union has a lot more technical rules against Rugby League.  Both great games but comes down to preference.  If you need to understand more google Rugby Union Rules and Rugby League Rules.  Good luck.
