Can police trace phone numbers across states when the caller was on restricted?? Or is that purely FBI??

My friend recieved a prank call under restricted and she's flipping out. I know who did it but my friend's parents are so pissed that they've threatened to call the police and have them trace the number. Meanwhile the person pranking (who is an enemy of mine) lives in a different state. Can the police trace it or would my friend's parent have to go to someone like the FBI??

  1. Your local police department can get a document subpoena to find out where the calls are coming from.

    The FBI has jurisdiction for federal crimes only, and will not be interested in tracing a prank phone call.


  2. you yourself can trace the call...its as easy as a subpoena duces tecum.
