Can pot be used for Vicodin Detox?

Question

Can marijuana be used to aid in detoxing from vicodin?

Ive been on pain medicine for 7 months now from an accident, and a surgery. Im no longer in pain, However the surgeun and the doctors refuse to give me more vicodin to ween myself.

Yes I know what should be done,( detox at rehab and what not ).

I have never smoked before, and have always been against it, however the effects of coming down from vicodin are unbearable for me considering how many I have taken. And since pot is not so addictive, I am thinking of smoking for a couple days to get thru this.

Please if you dont know the answer, dont answer to tell me everything that im doing wrong. Thanks in advance

Cannabis is not an opiate so it will not relieve the withdrawal symptoms of an opiate dependence.  It may distort your perception of the condition, and relieve some nausea, but once the affects wore off would have no residual effect.

The most significant withdrawal issues from Vicodin are only about 3 days due to the short half-life.  This can normally be managed with mild supportive medications.  Suboxone, which was mentioned by one of the previous responders would not be given till you were off the Vicodin for at least 2 days and is in itself substituting one dependence for another. Suboxone is used when a person is dependent on a long acting opiate such as methadone, heroin, or a sustained release form of opiate such as Oxycontin.

Contact a local free drug-less detox program in your area.  There are several which will give you the support you need in the first week.

Yeah,i think it will help you get through the withdrawals.Just be careful that you don't trade one addiction for another.Benadryl will also help mellow you out,make you sleepy.No matter what,it's going to rough for about 4 days.Just hang tough & you'll ok.Good Luck!

hello hey i have taken pain killers for surgeries i have had for the past 3 years well i definitely did not want to be on pain meds anymore so i went to my doctor and they have a med called SUBOXONE it is to help with withdraws and believe you me it is 100% effective i have been taking it for 3 months now and i never never never think of pain killers it is a narcotic to dint ask me but ask yer doctor i am serious you put it under your tongue and it is nasty as can be but with in 15 minutes to an hour oh my gosh you will never believe you have taken painkillers try it it really is number one when i think of pain meds i really forget i ever even took them this make you in a great mood i have to say you are kinda sped up and life is great
