My new roommate says that nothing that goes on the stove can go in the dishwasher, but I think it's a load of baloney. It's just teflon you can't put in, right?

  1. It depends if pots and pans you have are dishwashable.  I put all mine into the dishwasher except my pressure cooker which is aluminium.  Never put aluminium, cast iron or steel into the dishwasher.  Also do not put pans with wooden handles into the dishwasher.

  2. Yes, but sometimes they dont come out as clean.  But yes they can go in.

  3. Of course you can! I always do. You can look up the manufacturers recommendation on the internet, which I am sure will be that it is fine, and print it out for her.  I have been rinsing, then washing in the dishwasher since I have had our set of pots and pans and haven't had any problems with them. I have had them for eight years. I guess it might extend the life of the Teflon if you hand-washed them all but for the price paid is it even worth it? I mean, you'll probably want a new set after ten years anyways, right? You may want to advertise for a new room mate! Good luck!

  4. Non stick coated cookware shouldn't go in the dishwasher.  Your roomie is, mostly, right.  A lot of cookware isn't supposed to go in the dishwasher.  Usually the pot or pan is labeled whether it's dishwasher-safe.  If there's no label, check with the manufacturer.

  5. ~~I put everything in the dishwasher. Of course just be sure you aren't putting anything in there that's to large to block the dishwasher arms from spinning correctly. The dishwasher is great for cleaning pots and pans. If there is teflon coating, be sure you don't stack anything around the pot that could scratch the coating and you will be good to go!~~

  6. Yes,

  7. I do this all the time and nothing gets ruined, including coated pans. and dishwasher have a pots and pan cycle of there own on dishwashers  now!

  8. You can put pretty much anything in the dishwasher, but pots and pans don't get as clean in there as they would if they were hand washed.

  9. They certainly can go in the dishwasher and should, especially cast iron which absorbs oils and can also asorb soap or dtergent if not rinsed really well.

Tell your roomate they're smoking crack

  10. If your pans are nonstick, don't do it.  It's not that they won't get clean, the detergent is too harsh for the coating.  You'll need to reseason too often.  Most nonstick can simply be lightly washed  and dried.  Read instructions, you'll find you need to lightly coat with oil every so often to retain the coating.

Nontreated pans can go in with exceptions as noted above.
