Can ps3 play ps2 things?

I am thinking about getting a 40gb ps3, but i still want to play all of my ps2 games. Does that work? Also, what about DVDs?

The PS3 will play all REGION 1 dvds ! However, the 40GB will only play some PS1 games but no PS2 games. Only the 20GB, 60GB, 80GB (Motorstorm bundle) and 80GB (Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle) will play PS2 games.

The 20GB and 60GB PS3 were discontinued in mid 2007 !

THE 40GB PS3 WILL NOT PLAY PLAYSTATION 2 GAMES !

There's also another 80GB PS3 due out any day now but it will not play PS2 games either. It's just a 40GB model upgraded with an 80GB hard drive !

You'll need the Metal Gear Solid 80GB bundle PS3 to play PS2 games !

I think it still plays PS2 and DVD's, and I think you can even save the PS2 files to the PS3's hard drive!
