I got confused but can questions be placed into the research paper as if asking the reader a question ? I thought somewhere that you have to keep the papers in the first person.

  1. Honestly, you can't put rules like that on writing.  Schools today teach research writing like it's making a salad, and that's just not right.  But I will  say that questions, especially in second person, are tricky, and if you want to play on the safe side, avoid them.  If you need to put them in, but you still want to be safe, just avoid the word "you" and all its forms; then you can always argue that you didn't include second person.  But if you feel the situation merits a second person question, and you think you can pull it off, by all means include one.  Despite what they tell you, I've always found formulaic and drab writing gets worse grades than writing that's actually interesting.  So, though it's safer (per se) not to use questions, it's perfectly admissible to include them.
