  1. this was common in the south during times of slavery and lasted long after that when blacks would refer to thier slave masters as mister or mrs. and then the first name. I think it is still practiced in the south by the older gerneration.

  2. I think that, unless it is a letter than no you should not to address people Mr(first name). However to anybody formal in a letter i think it is ok to address them Mr. (name) then by their surname straight after eg. Mr. David Beckham. This i also believe can be used if you are introducing somebody. Really hope that helps Thx.

  3. Only if you are on a very close personal level.  For instance, my uncle used to call me Mr. Tim.  At work you would never do that.

  4. It depends on the situation.  They use Mr. plus the first name all the time in the ghetto.

  5. I think so.

  6. sounds kind of dumb

  7. Yeha!

    Like MR. STEVE

    or Mr. zACK

  8. when I was dating my wife, her mother asked me to call her linda, I couldn't it felt disrespectful to me. Then one day I went to her job and everyone there was calling her Miss Linda, I like that so thats what I've always called her.

  9. i think so. sometimes its bad. i would use mr. then last name not first

  10. That used to be extremely common, but not so much anymore.  I wouldn't do it unless the person has expressed that they are comfortable with it.

  11. In fact, very common in some parts of the world where they like to show respect.  For example, an American working in Indonesia may insist his hosts to address him by his first name, and in response, the Indonesians would likely add a "Mr." in front of it.

I have been addressed in similar manner when travelling aboard, particularly in Asia.
