I just got an ultimate chopper for free from a friend, but it didn't have the recipe book with it. Can it really serve as an ice cream maker? If so, how do you use it to make ice cream? Just blend all the ingredients together and freeze or something? Thanks!

  1. I have to admit that I'm not familiar with the Ultimate Chopper.  But I do freeze my own ice cream frequently.  Ice cream needs to be stirred while it's being frozen.  This mixes some air into it but mainly it prevents the formation of ice crystals.  If you've ever had ice cream melt and re-freeze, you've found ice crystals in it.  This is because it wasn't stirred while it re-froze and the ice formed.  So I don't see how you could mix the ingredients and just freeze them.  But the articles below from the wiki link are very interesting.  It sounds like maybe your friend may want you to lose some fingers.  Are you sure he's a friend?  Just kidding.  ;-)  I don't know why anyone would put their fingers or hands into a chopper without making sure it was unplugged.

In 2005, a recall was announced for the Ultimate Chopper due to a malfunction in the interlocking lid assembly, which would allow the machine to run without having the lid properly in place, putting users of the product at risk of lacerations and/or fingertip amputation if consumers insert their hands into the food processor. Apparently 17 consumers issued safety complaints with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Five of the complainants required stitches or surgery, and the other 12 received cuts or scratches.

According to the CSPC's product recall page for the Ultimate Chopper, the Ultimate Chopper was sold from March 2002 through July 2005. However, infomercials still show up on television, most likely in an attempt to sell all remaining stock as the price has been discounted from its original $59.90 (two payments of $29.95) to $39.95.

  2. I've seen it done before and tasted the ice cream from it! It tastes great!

I think the chopper should come with a recipe book - or you can get their recipe book on line.

If it's the same chopper that I saw work - all you have to do is add ice cubes with the other ingredients and it will freeze for you! Pretty neat little thing!
