I needed to get onto the platform at Stirling Station the other day and had to purchase a single to the next station as platform tickets are not used anymore.

  1. dont know about London but think all others are open stations

think you could just have walked on but I dont know nothing about Scotland

  2. You can get a permit to travel. They cost about 50p.

  3. Platform tickets are available at all National Rail stations, it is a part of the ATOC conditions that they be available. Saying they no longer exist is an excuse frequently used by incompetent or poorly trained staff.

I issued a platform a few weeks ago at my station, they cost 10p.

  4. No, the systems were abused and with the advent of the all encompassing terrorism laws they were completely withdrawn

  5. online/ticket booth if you have one

  6. you can usally order them on the websit and they will send them to you before ur trip!

  7. They are still sold at Chester-le-Street for 10p, not that that would be any good for you as its no where near stirling.

  8. I don't know of any UK stations that still offer platform tickets.
