My rat has been sneezing a lot and I was wondering if I should worry about him getting sick and how I would tell that he has a cold.

If he can get sick how do I cure him?

  1. My rats sneeze whenever I put them in an air conditioned room. Perhaps your house is just a little to cold for them. Try a less drafty spot for him/her.

  2. yes rats can get a cold and you should go to the vet and get him or her checked and in the meantime try to give him/her extra water and keep him warmer than usual

  3. i can only say this rats are sometimes always cold because sometimes why do they always make holes in houses then live in the warmness in there

  4. If his lil nose isn't wet or plugged, he's not making a wheezing noise, his breathing isn't labored, and he's not blowing anything onto his lil hands when he sneezes, then it's most likely not a cold.

As suggested...Is he in a draft?  You can place a towel over the tank top of his cage, if it's screen, and see if this helps (but be careful he can't reach it to chew it, cause he'll shred it to pieces, if he can get hold of it!).

Also, if you changed the type of bedding you have been using, it could be more dusty, and that would cause him to sneeze.

I hope it's just a husbandry issue, and he'll be okay.

Enjoy your pet, and I hope this has been helpful.
