can rats eat timothy hay?

i need to know so i can add everything i need to get a rat!!

I get Peter's Meadow Mix for my rats, but I do not believe they actually eat any of it. They much prefer to use it to make a nest and sleep on. Makes them smell good, too. :P

I also get Sunaturals Garden Salads, has Timothy hay, but again, they tend to just use most of the stuff for nesting materials and not eat it:

Rats pretty much just stay on a pellet or seed diet. When i worked at petco we never gave them timothy hay. But there are treats you can buy for rats that would be a better choice to give them other than timothy hay. They also love fruits and veggies like Kale, Bananas, Broccoli, Sweet potatoes, and Grapes this should only be given as a treat and changed everyday.
