  1. If you are talking about adjusting to a certain shutter speeds manually - then, yes. The XTi is a digital SLR which means you can change the lenses and adjust shutter, aperature and ISO settings manually as well as hav those "point and shoot" quick settings. The best of both worlds!

    Hope this helped.

    GOOD LUCK.

  2. Yes, of course.

  3. Yes you can change the shutter speed along with the iso speed. Yes you can control the same things as old time camera and even a little bit.

  4. Yes.

There is a shutter priority mode (you set the desired shutter speed and the camera select a workable aperture) there is an aperture priority mode where you select the aperture you want (there is also a depth of field preview button, similar to a stop down lever on old slrs, though stop down metering isn't required on the EOS cameras) and the camera decides a workable shutter.

There is a full manual mode as well, which enables bulb shooting.  The shutter range of the rebel is bulb, 30s - 1/4000th in either 1/3rd stops or 1/2 stops (a user option lets you choose)

Other useful things with most digital cameras, and certainly true of the rebel:

You can change the ISO speed from shot to shot.

You can change the colour temperature of the sensor from shot to shot with useful presets such as tungsten, daylight, cloud, shade, flourescent or auto and manual.

I only point this out because it sounds like you are moving accross from film.

Digital quality is very good these days, a perfect compliment to film for most applications.

You will love the instant review.
