as it is like our malaysian government, so much is said about recycling but the efforts carried out by the local authorities are just putting up some recycle collection bins at the corner without much emphasis. so, what's the point?

  1. We have to start some where.

I get little support from my community, either.  As far as what's the point, it's like the old "starfish" story.

A little boy is on a beach and sees many many starfish stranded when the tide goes out.  They will dry out and die if they don't get back into the water soon, so he starts tossing them back into the water.  An adult who is watching says to him, "Young man, your effort is understandable, but look, there are thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of starfish on this beach.  Most will die before you ever get to them.  You just as well quit, because it won't make a difference."

The child picks up a living starfish, and looks at it.  He tosses it into the water. Then he looks at the man seriously, and says, "It made a difference to that one."

We can't always make a difference to all we want to, but you can make your little corner of the world better. That's the point:  Reach for that starfish.
