If you answer me, I will try to do. I like to ride bike distance on I-10 highway from Los Angeles to Phoenix. I think bike's speed is about 15-20 mph, sound right? if no, how much bike speed? Bike can be travel from L.A. to Phoenix about least 15 hours. I'm serious I want to go because I don't like expensive flight tickets, bus, and car really expensive gas! Bike is free! for Saving $$$! Agree my good idea or wrong explain me. lol.

I try to travel to Arizona then again to Texas, then to Florida I can stop to rest at motel each night without car or bus. My question is serious....... lol!

  1. I live in phoenix and I was curious about this.

    mapquest-

    Directions from A to B:

1: Start out going WEST on E WASHINGTON ST toward N CENTRAL AVE. 0.5 miMap

2: Turn RIGHT onto N 7TH AVE. 0.9 miMap Avoid

3: Merge onto I-10 W via the ramp on the LEFT toward LOS ANGELES (Crossing into CALIFORNIA). 369.9 miMap Avoid

    4: I-10 W becomes US-101 N. 1.0 miMap Avoid

5: Take the SPRING ST exit, EXIT 2C. 0.1 miMap Avoid

6: Turn RIGHT onto N SPRING ST. 0.4 miMap Avoid

7: Turn LEFT onto TOM BRADLEY BLVD. 0.1 miMap Avoid

8: End at Los Angeles, CA  Map

Estimated Time: 5.0 hours 39 minutes Estimated Distance: 372.81 miles

I did the math and you would do 15mph x 375 =25hours That did not include stops for potty breaks, food, resting and if you pop a tire on the way.

I saw that people do ride shares on craiglist.

  2. It's the wrong time of the year to start this ride.

Temperatures will be too high for safe riding.

consider 100 miles a day for 10 hr day including stops and all.

The wind will be your biggest enemy and slow you to a crawl at times.

by the way , it is illegal to ride a bike on a freeway

  3. Steam is right on the mark.  Troopers will chase you off or arrest you if you ride the Interstate.  And that country is hot and dry -- you'll wilt quicker than you can imagine anytime between now and next winter.  Find a riding club near you and hang around with them to learn about training, physical conditioning and the right equipment before you attempt a ride anything like you described.  Your life depends on it.

  4. I don't know that part of the country but I've ridden several Doubles(200/day).You can ride anything with proper training and you have your head in the right place.I think the latter is the most important.Ride on and enjoy!

  5. Make sure you take plenty of water, patch kits, lights, tool kit. I prefer riding against the traffic so I can see what's coming. Are bikes allowed on that highway? Plan for plenty of rest stops. Good luck!
